About Me

My name is Elke (pronounced as ‘El-ka’) Sherson and I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I am originally from the Netherlands where I obtained both my Masters Degree (specialising in child and adolescent psychology) and Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology. I am registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and I am a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society.

Over the course of my career, I have provided assessment and treatment for a wide range of mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, ADHD, autism, substance abuse, behavioural problems, grief and relationship difficulties. I have worked with children, adolescents and adults in several therapeutic settings, both inpatient and outpatient.

Alongside my work, I have become proficient in different therapeutic techniques. I am a registered cognitive behavioural therapist (CBT) and a junior schema therapist. I have experience with individual and group treatment based on dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). I can also treat acute and complex trauma using EMDR. Finally I use techniques based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness when applicable.

In December 2022, my husband and I moved to New Zealand to establish ourselves here and to be closer to the outdoors. Our love for the mountains and wanting to be close to family brought us to Wanaka, where we are currently based. I am looking forward to supporting the local community with my services, but most of all, to help you on your journey.
